Using no products at all is pretty much the abstinence of the cosmetic world, but what is the fun in that!? Natural and trustworthy products are kind of like the condoms of the industry.. we can still have fun and stay safe guys! So why should people go natural? No, it’s not just a fad to look superior and no, it’s not because I am a tree hugging hippy. If anyone knows me, they know I’d rather be getting fed grapes poolside at a resort opposed to waking up in a tent in the woods, so I obviously hardly qualify. Would I sound terrible if I said it’s because I love myself? Whatever, we need more self-loving acceptance in this world anyway.
-Product Knowledge is Power-
I will be the first to admit that I do not have the healthiest habits. I love pizza, ice-cream and vodka WAY too much to eliminate it completely out of my diet. The most exciting part of going natural is discovering all of the fascinating ingredients nature provides us with that are not only safe and beneficial for our skin, but in my experience, BETTER beauty products all around! I understand that people share this same passion about nature with diets, however, until you find me a pizza that tastes as good as Dominos, ice-cream as good as Ben & Jerry’s and water that makes me feel like vodka does…. I’m just way too uneasy to fully commit. This is not a raw eating blog, so just LET ME LIVE MY LIFE. I figure this, if I can dedicate one portion of my life to living cleaner, healthier, and more positive, I am one step closer to a more beneficial future. Every little bit helps.

Working in the beauty industry and being fortunate enough to work with some amazing and trustworthy product lines, I have been educated on how alarming the products we use on our skin every day can be! I mean, I knew the government was out there effing everything up all the time, but I did not know how careless the laws and regulations were for things that we not only allow on our bodies, but childrens as well. Did you know that the US Federal Government does not require ANY testing or health related studies to be done on personal care products before they go on the market? Instead, products go through some bullshit industry supported organization called the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR). This organization is just another way for people in power to choose money over safety. According to the nonprofit Environmental Working Group (EWG) “89 percent of 10,500 ingredients used in personal care products have not been evaluated for safety by the CIR, the FDA, nor any other publicly accountable institution”. The cosmetic industry is a 35 billion dollar industry which is why the government fails to regulate it. The EWG also says that, “1 of every 13 women and 1 of every 23 men are exposed to ingredients that are known or probable human carcinogens every day through their use of personal care products”.
If I went through and listed all of the toxic and harmful chemicals the United States allows in our every day beauty products, my fingers would fall off from typing. These chemicals are linked to serious cancers, birth defects, life threatening diseases and infertility. Just remember this, Europe has banned two of the most toxic ingredients (DBP and DEHP) from all European sold cosmetics. Not only does the U.S. still allow these exact toxins to be in our products, but the FDA did a study on the safety of them in OUR products and is refusing to release the results. Okay? SHADY! The FDA also doesn’t even require any cosmetic manufacturers to report any “cosmetic-related injuries”. What a joke.
-How to Find Trustworthy Products-

First, I must stress to everyone that just because a product says “Organic”, “Natural”, or “Hypoallergenic”… it does not mean shit. Most products that are labeled Natural or Organic still contain synthetic chemicals and toxins. Did you know a product only has to contain 10 PERCENT of organic ingredients to be labeled 100% organic certified!? This 10% can be in weight OR volume! That is basically like chopping up grass, sprinkling it into some Windex and telling someone to go spray it onto their body. UGH! The best advice I can give, is to STAY KNOWLEDGABLE. Read and research the product lines and ingredients in your everyday products! I would be lying if I said that EVERY single product of mine was homemade, pure, clean and natural. I’m human… and a girl who effing LOVES makeup and hair products. However, I stay aware and as safe as I can. I make my own products as often as I can with all of the amazing gifts nature provides for us, or use safe and trustworthy product lines.
Companies I 100% back up are:
My FAVORITE skin care line, Eminence and the most amazing makeup line on earth, Jane Iredale. Both are TRULY organic, natural, honest and AMAZING lines that make me proud of my profession!
