Exfoliating: Why You Need to Do it

Did you know that the outer layer of your skin is made up of dead skin cells? Yes, DEAD. Our skin cells renew every 28-45 days, however this process slows down the older we get. Seriously, growing up is a real cruel bitch. Sometimes I wonder how many kids I pushed down at recess to deserve this, but then I remember it's apart of life and I'll pay for that karma in a different way. Although our skin renews and "sheds" itself, we still should speed this natural process along to prevent dull looking skin and dead cell build up. I don't know about you but I prefer my skin to look and feel fresh. By us exfoliating, we are encouraging cell turnover. Without cell turnover we are allowing our dead skin cells to build up and cause excess oil and clogged pores, and we all know what that results in. No thank you.

Exfoliating away dead skin cells allows your skin to absorb nutrients better therefore having a more effective result! Why pay all this money for a serum or moisturizer if you're not reaping the FULL benefit? We also know how obsessed I am with aging so you better believe this is the bees knees for that too! Every time you're exfoliating you are basically ridding years of dead skin cells which is pretty effing gross but also pretty effing amazing. Have you ever sat there and thought "wow, if I was as rich as a kardashian I would just microderm my entire body every week and take baths in thousands of dollars worth of serums"…. or is that just me? Anyways, you're basically on the right track. I like to call this alternative lifestyle "Bitchin' on a Budget". It's better than nothing, trust me.

-Two Types of Exfoliators-

1.) Physical Exfoliants: This method of exfoliating is more surface focused. Physical exfoliation Treatments with your Esthetician would include services such as Microderm or Dermaplane (to name just a couple). Physical exfoliation when done at home uses your own physical friction by scrubbing your skin with a beaded scrub or textured cloth. For an amazing Coconut Oil based body scrub click here! Seriously, you will not regret it.

2.) Chemical Exfoliants: This method of exfoliating is used with a chemical product and not friction. Typically these products include acid based ingredients that do the exfoliating for you. Chemical peels are an amazing solution for intense facial exfoliating. Talk to your esthetician about your best option!
