Aloe Vera: Do Not Proceed With Caution

I am honestly almost embarrassed to admit how completely far OFF of my radar Aloe was until this year. Holy effing crap. Screw the flowers, I’m expecting an Aloe Vera plant next Valentines day. However, I should probably work on finding a boyfriend first to make that happen….. so in that case, Mom? Dad? Anyways, I’ll save that pity story for my journal. But seriously, my skin cells are raising the roof at this Aloe concert. I have MANY natural things I love and use, truly, my room looks like a Whole Foods aisle.

I’m so excited to share my love for Aloe Vera Gel I seriously want to do a cartwheel but I’m way too lazy for that so I’ll just talk your face off about it. I was having another one of my notorious dramatic mental breakdowns about my skin and made a personal decision to try the completely all natural and organic route. I was running out of patience and money (Can I get an AMEN!?) and I had truly tried EVERYTHING. At this point I was willing to rub road kill all over my face if I knew it would cure my acne (sorry, I’m gross) but seriously… desperate times call for desperate measures. I went to the local natural grocers store completely blind and uneducated (I know, real smart Andie) and next thing you know I’m standing in the beauty aisle staring off into hundreds of products with my mouth open and brows squinted clearly very confused because another CUSTOMER came over to me and asked me what I was looking for (thank goodness, because I had the driest mouth on the face of this earth at this point) So I told her “I am going to rip my face off and feed it to the wild” but more normal and way less crazy.
The woman then proceeds to tell me Aloe Vera is the answer to all of my problems. My first thought was… Listen lady, I didn’t just tell you about my trip to Jamaica where I thought being the first one at the swim up bar was more important than applying sunscreen to my sensitive skin (true and traumatizing sunburn story) I’m trying to tell you about my horrible FACE!! but then as she continued to show me how many reputable organic skin care products were focused around Aloe I was like mmmmk let me look into this a little further. I bought a bottle of Organic 98% Aloe Vera Gel (98% is okay in this case since the other 2% is natural preservatives) and then raced home and spent my entire night researching the magic of this plant (wow, I REALLY need a life).
-Six Skin Issues That Aloe Vera Benefits-
Acne, Scarring, Dry, Oily, Aging, Irritated and Sensitive
(Uhhh, is there even any other types…!? You literally can’t NOT benefit somehow from this.)

Acne and Scarring: Aloe Vera gel holds anti-inflammatory properties from two hormones called Auzin and Gibberellins. These aren’t the scary hormones that make you want to punch your boyfriend in the face for breathing too loud or the ones that drive you to walgreens at 10 at night to buy 14 dollars worth of candy bars (sorry I’m not sorry), but these are good hormones because they hold anti-inflammatory properties that not just reduce your current acne but also the Giberellins stimulate growth for new cells which promotes faster healing in a non-harsh way with little to no scarring.
Dry and Oily: “Uhhhh. How the heck is one product directed to both skin types? Shady.” I thought the same thing. But truly it’s miraculous. I always had a difficult time trying to treat my flaky and dry yet also oily and shiny skin ALL while trying to maintain my acne. UGH, it is NOT easy being cute. But seriously this balances everything perfectly! Aloe Vera Gel coats the face with a thin layer that acts as a dry barrier on the outside (which makes it nice for Oily/Shiny skin), while holding in moisture by binding cells and water together, promoting hydration and skin cell renewal (which is perfect for flaky/dry skin).
Aging: Okay. Two words anti-aging fiends go totally ape-shit over= Moisture & Antioxidants. Lucky for you guys, Aloe Leaves contain both properties. Aloe gel is FILLED with antioxidants including our favorites for aging skin- beta carotene and Vitamin C & E. Because of this, Aloe Vera Gel stimulates cell renewal six to eight times faster than your cell production would normally on its own. Because of encouraged cell renewal, your skin will be firm and refreshed.
Irritated and Sensitive: I’m going to keep this short and sweet because it’s incredibly simple. The Aloe Vera plant has been a go to healing agent dating back thousands of years. Aloe is an emollient which helps soften and soothe skin while supplying oxygen to the skin cells which encourages blood flow strengthening skin tissue. If Aloe was used back in the day to heal soldiers wounds, I think it can handle your itchy eczema.
My Favorite Ways To Use Aloe <3

Make up primer: This is my NUMBER ONE sweet baby Jesus hallayluyah reason I love Aloe Vera Gel. It is the BEST make up primer. Keeps my skin moisturized all day but also creates a matte finish which eliminates oil and shine while ALSO acting as a protection barrier between my skin and my makeup. HOLLER! Not to mention it’s about a thousand times cheaper than any facial primer on the market for about four times the size.
Face and body lotion: I use a natural Aloe based daily face moisturizer with 30 SPF (so effing important people, don’t even make me open that door right now) and then pure Aloe Vera Gel on top of it. I also mix Aloe Vera Gel with pure coconut oil to use as a body moisturizer and ALSO mix a few squirts in with a bottle of rose water spray and sprits it all over my body after the shower! (Uhhh, you’re welcome me in 20 years!!!)
Face mask: I LOVEEE doing Raw Honey facemasks! Usually, I will incorporate some aloe vera gel with my Manuka Honey and spread all over my face and wash it off before I go to bed. The Aloe Vera Gel makes the honey much easier to apply throughout the face while also providing a soothing cooling effect. It’s seriously amazing.
Be sure your Aloe Vera Gel is at LEAST 98% pure and not that green and blue bullshit with a cartoon sun wearing sunglasses on the label. Nice try Walmart .99 cent bin. This is the brand I use and trust>> Click Here
